Marathon-a-month effort

Rachael Hardman with Lotty at the Blackpool marathon

Rachael Hardman with Lotty at the Blackpool marathon

AS SOME of us are pulling on our trainers and trying to train off the turkey, one woman is taking a well deserved rest.

Rachael Hardman has run 12 marathons this year, one for every month of the calender.

The Harborough Running Club member has even travelled to Lisbon in search of fresh marathon territory.

She has run through Blackpool and Windermere on her journey, where she said runners were stopping to take photos of the picturesque place.

Rachael has so far raised more than £1,000 for her two chosen charities, Loros and East Anglia Children’s Hospice which is supported by the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton.

Rachael said that she wanted to raise money for charity but came up with the idea to run the 12 marathons as it would seem like more of a challenge to those sponsoring her.

She said: “I wanted to do something for children and I wanted to do something for Loros as well as I had a close friend who had cancer and they really helped him in his last few months.”

Rachael (42), was supported at every marathon by her husband Nigel and her dog and training partner Lotty.

Although Rachael said she will now have a rest she is however planning to get her trainers back on soon and start preparing to run an ultra marathon – a 50-mile one day run – and fancies trying a triathlon.

You can help Rachael, who lives in Rothwell, by sponsoring her at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Rachaels-12-in-2012-challenge.
