PARKING officers from Harborough District Council were verbally abused and one was spat at, a court heard.

The district council said yesterday (Wednesday) that a man has been sentenced in court for verbally abusing two council parking attendants.

Two Civil Enforcement Officers, employed by the council to monitor parking, were verbally abused - and one was spat at during the incident - in May this year.

The perpetrator pleaded guilty to the offences at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on September 3 and was sentenced to a 12-month community order, ordered to undertake 60 hours of unpaid work and pay court costs.

Cllr Colin Golding, Harborough Council’s spokesman for community safety, said: “This case shows that instances of abuse or violence towards staff will not be tolerated and will, wherever possible, be reported to the police who may take the matter to court.

“We are very pleased that the court looked seriously on this case and issued a suitable penalty on the perpetrator.”

The council has not named the man.
