Lorry driver killed in A14 smash

A LORRY driver died in a crash on the A14 on Thursday night (July 26).

A collision between two lorries on the westbound carriage of the A14 led to the fatal accident at about 5pm last night.

The crash led to four-mile tailbacks a mile prior to the Catthorpe Interchange and queuing which lasted several hours.

Northants police said they were assisted by the Highways Agency with distributing water and checking on the welfare of people in the queue of traffic and that Tesco provided a large quantity of water to the scene.

However some drivers stuck in the chaos reported to the Mail they they saw no-one handing out water.

Inspector Phil Kings, from Northamptonshire Police, said: “There was a collision between two HGVs and unfortunately, the driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Traffic started being diverted at around 8pm, with the westbound carriage remaining closed into the night for police investigations.
