A LORRY driver who works in the Lutterworth area has had his years of work with young people recognised with a medal from the Queen.

Andy Mockett, a driver at the Asda ADC depot at Magna Park, was presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for services to the Air Training Corps.

Mr Mockett has been involved with the ATC since he was a teenager, but took a nine-year break when he joined the RAF.

He served as a motor transport driver in Germany and was also involved in mine-clearance work in the Falkland Islands.

Mr Mockett, who lives at Barwell near Leicester, has been involved with a number of ATC groups, including ones in Hinckley, Leicester and, most recently, Coventry.

Martin Reynolds, one of Mr Mockett’s Asda colleagues, said: “Andy was nominated for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal earlier this year and was presented with it in May.

“He has worked for Asda for 12 years and as well as being a driver he is a health and safety representative. He has previously worked as a trainer and with Asda’s recruitment team.”

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal was given out as a mark of thanks for hard work to thousands of front-line fire, ambulance and police personnel shortly before the Queen’s milestone earlier this year.

However, more medals were given to people who have volunteered in their community or who have done sterling work with various community groups.
