Life-saving group announces success

THE GROUP behind a campaign to equip Lutterworth with emergency equipment to treat people who have suffered a heart attack has revealed it is purchasing two more defibrillators for the town.

The Masharani Patient Participation Group (PPG) unveiled an emergency defibrillator which was paid for with more than £2,000 raised by the group in January this year.

The defibrillator is stored outside Fortnams Chemist, in High Street.

Richard Keane, a member of the Masharani PPG – a group which is attached to the Masharani Practice and aims to raise awareness of health issues in Lutterworth – said the group is now ready to unveil two more potentially life-saving machines in the town.

He added: “At their March meeting the group was able to announce that a second Public Access Defibrillator will shortly be installed in the Linden Drive shopping area outside Linden Food Stores.

“The rapid installation of this, following the first one located in the High Street, has been made possible by the receipt of a very generous anonymous donation to cover purchase and on-going maintenance costs.

“The distinctive yellow boxes, containing the equipment to shock casualties, carry clear audio instructions so that the whole procedure can be easily be carried out by any untrained person.”

Mr Keane said that further donations have been received from the Lutterworth Town Estates Trustees, Lutterworth Town Council, St Mary’s Church, the Lutterworth Lions as well as a number of private contributions.

He added: “As a result the PPG are now in a position to order a third defibrillator to be sited in another strategic area in the town.

“The members of the group are delighted that the project of giving Lutterworth life-saving equipment has been achieved in record time through the help and generosity of the community.”

The machines cost about £2,000, including maintenance, each.
