Keys to new hospital unit set to be handed over

BUILDERS will soon be handing over the keys to a new health unit at St Luke’s Hospital in Harborough.

Work on the Day Case Unit, which will be used for endoscopies and other minor procedures, is nearing completion and the handover of keys from contractors Hallam to the health trust is due to take place in the next few weeks. Clinical commissioning of the building will then start and the unit will be fitted out with the necessary clinical equipment.

Staff training will take place in December and the unit is due to open in January 2012.

The unit was bogged down in controversy during the spring when initial contractors ModCon failed to complete the work and walked off site. Hallam stepped in to finish the job.
