Keep on rolling at hockey rink

A ROLLER hockey team which has been training at Lutterworth Sports Centre for a number of years now has a purpose-built facility just a few miles outside the town.
The Leicester Dragons Inline Roller Hockey team is now based at the facility – near Ashby Parva – which was formerly a large greenhouse.
A group of friends, including Ellis Clarke, the owner of the site, and Fleckney man Mick Payne, one of the coaches of the Leicester Dragons, built the rink in their spare time – which included laying a special surface.
Mr Payne said: “It was hard work but it means we can now host matches instead of the players travelling to the north or south all the time.”
Inline Roller Hockey bears many similarities to ice hockey, even including the use of a special puck which has small nubs to allow it to glide along the ground as if it were on ice.
At senior level it is a full-contact sport, and as such the players are heavily kitted out with protective equipment.
