A LUTTERWORTH teenager has vowed to continue singing despite being knocked out of a primetime BBC singing competition on Sunday.

Kate Read (19) appeared on BBC1’s The Voice where she wowed judges Tom Jones and Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am during the audition process where she performed a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colours.

She won a place in the second round of the show and appeared again on Sunday in a sing-off against another contestant – Frances Wood – where the pair performed a duet of Alanis Morrisette’s Ironic.

After the pair had sung, Kate’s mentor Will.i.am decided to drop Kate from the contest, saying he felt that Frances was more of a ‘chameleon’.

However, Kate said she is still determined to succeed in the music business.

She added: “It has only made me more hungry to succeed and more sure that singing is what I want to do all the time.

“Before this I was just singing in my bedroom, so to go from that to singing on stage, in front of Will.i.am, in such a short time – it’s just amazing.”

Kate said she has already been approached by music managers with offers, but is taking some time to weigh up her options before she makes a decision.

In the audition stage of the competition, Kate had impressed both Tom Jones and Will.i.am, but had opted to work with the Black Eyed Peas star.
