PEOPLE are being urged to get behind this year’s Harborough Carnival by joining in the fun of the float parade.
Arguably the highlight of the day, the parade sets off from Burnmill Road on a procession through the town, traditionally attracting thousands of people to the town centre to spectate.
A wide range of different groups and businesses usually take part, coming up with all sorts of interesting and creative ideas to dress up their float.
As many as 30 floats have joined the parade through the town in recent carnivals.
But the take-up this year has been disappointing so far, with only ten floats confirmed.
And organisers from the Harborough Lions group are urging more people to come forward to register their interest.
It’s so easy to take part – simply email parade organiser John Price at john071039@hotmail.com or phone 01858 288428 for a registration form.
The floats and drivers are provided completely free of charge by Stephen Sanderson Transport.
All people need to do is come up with a fun theme, dress their float (and themselves) and have fun.
There’s no need to spend lots of money on your float – consider asking businesses for cardboard or raid the attic and recycle old materials.
It is a fantastic opportunity for charities to raise awareness of their cause, for groups to attract more members, or performers to show off their talents.
And it’s not just for organised groups either – friends and neighbours have got together in the past to enter floats.
There are adult and junior sections, with prizes for first (£75), second (£40) and third (£25) places in each section.
