A LUTTERWORTH man has been pounding the streets of his hometown to get fit in preparation for the Leicester Marathon next month.

James Orton (23), from Council Street, is hoping to raise £1,000 for the armed forces charity Help for Heroes by completing the 26 mile run around Leicester on Sunday, October 14.

James is already more than half-way towards his target, having collected £500 from family and friends.

He said: “Help for Heroes is a good cause and does a lot of good work.

“I have got a friend in the army, but I didn’t choose the charity for any particular reason, I just wanted to do a run for charity and it seemed like a good one to support.”

James, who works for Lutterworth-based TRS Moulds and Joinery, said he has found training tough so far, but he is confident of building up the miles as he approaches the marathon.

He added: “I was pretty-much starting from scratch in terms of the running when I started
training.

“I managed to run 20 miles from Lutterworth to Leicester last Friday.

“That was really hard work, especially as it was really warm.”

James said he is hoping to organise more fundraising events in the future for different charities.

He added: “I’m hoping to swim the English Channel at some point next year, but that is something I would have to do with a friend, it’s not something I could do alone.

“It’s something a little bit different, anyway.”

James has set up a website where people can make donations towards his fundraising. For information, visit www.justgiving.com/james-orton.
