WHEN athletes are given their medals at the Paralympics a Harborough girl will be there to ensure the ceremonies run smoothly.

Jade Feavyour (19), will be serving as an escort to the VIPs that present medals to the Paralympians.

The student who lives in St Mary’s Road, Harborough also played a role in the Olympics where she was present at the medal ceremonies of Mo Farah and Usain Bolt.

She volunteered to play a part in the Olympics and Paralympics two-years-ago but only heard she had a role two weeks before the Olympics when another volunteer dropped out.

Jade said: “The official title is present escort which means the VIPs that present the medal, I look after them before and after the ceremony.”

She will be acting in this role during the volleyball at the excel arena which started last Thursday as well as the wheelchair rugby which began yesterday at the basketball arena.

While serving at the Olympics, Jade said one of her most memorable moments was speaking to Christine Ohuruogo.

She said: “Before she got the medals I asked her what she was going to do now and she said she was going to have fish and chips for tea.”

Jade also played a part in the closing ceremony where she was there when the medals were presented to the winner of the marathon and said that the crowds were going crazy.

She said: “It is not just the athletes though, I have met some amazing volunteers and I am looking forward to talking to the people at the Paralympics and hearing their stories.”
