A BEREAVEMENT charity has benefited from £15,000 raised at a family fun day organised by the family of tragic London Marathon runner Claire Squires.
Claire’s family organised the event at Market Harborough Rugby Club in August to raise money for The Laura Centre in Leicester, which helps families cope with the grief of losing a loved one.
The event featured live music, drinks, food and fun activities for all the family.
Claire’s sister Maxine Holmes (39) visited the centre to hand over the cheque for £15,000 to Gail Moore, from South Kilworth, who founded The Laura Centre just over 20 years ago after the death of her daughter Laura, who died from leukaemia.
Claire, who also lived in South Kilworth, and attended Lutterworth Grammar School, was 30 years old when she died in April after collapsing about a mile from the finish line of the London Marathon.
She had been raising money for The Samaritans and after her death more than 80,000 people contributed over £1.1million to the charity.
