Historian tackles Hitler for his new publication
Historian and University of Leicester lecturer Dr Michael Lynch who has just finished a book about Hitler.
AN HISTORIAN who has penned more than 30 books has published his most recent work about one of history’s most hated figures – Hitler.
Dr Michael Lynch, from Holly Drive, in an Honorary Fellow in the School of Historical Studies at Leicester University.
He said his latest book about the German dictator is an effort to compile some of the more recent research on Hitler which has been published in the last ten or 15 years.
Dr Lynch, who is 74, said: “Literally thousands of books have been written about Hitler but some new research has been carried out in the last decade or so which I have attempted to draw together in my book.
“The research takes a long time, and it mostly involves reading, reading and more reading as well as visiting museums and looking at their archives.
“Hitler is an interesting character because he is a detested figure and everyone knows what he represents but there is a fascination with the evil he perpetrated.”
Dr Lynch said while the internet has made finding research sources easier, it can also make things more difficult because it provides so much information to plough through.
Dr Lynch has worked at the University of Leicester since 1992 and although he is now partially retired, he still lectures there on occasions.
His previous books deal with a range of historical matters although he has written a number of books on specific personalities such as Lloyd George, Leon Trotsky and Mao Tse-tung. He said his next book, which is at an early stage, will be about the former Cuban leader Fidel Castro. He has also written a number of A-level textbooks.
