Groups urged to bid for Rotary swim fund grant

THE FANTASTIC amount of money rasied during last month’s Harborough Rotary Club SwiMarathon will now be divided up among deserving causes in the area – and your group is being urged to apply.

Held at Harborough Leisure Centre on the weekend of April 21-22, it was a sponsored fun swim for teams.

Each group swam in a relay for an hour and more than 150 swimmers and over 20 businesses raised enough money for the Rotary Club to be able to donate £7,000 to local and Rotary charities, community organisations and worthy causes.

Harborough Rotarian Ian Clarkson, chairman of the SwiMarathon team, said “We are particularly pleased that we are able to offer so much money to local causes after an event which so many swimmers really enjoyed. We are now inviting people to apply for grants.”

People can apply by filling in the form in this Thursday’s Harborough Mail (May 3).

There must be a local connection and you need to give some details of how you will spend the money and when. The maximum grant is £500 but most will be for less than that.

The deadline is midday on Wednesday, May 23. The grants will be presented at a special SwiMarathon presentation event at Robert Smyth Academy on June 18.

There should be someone from your group who can come and receive the award that night. Those being awarded a grant will be told by June 6. The business sponsors will also be invited to this event.

People can also email applications to swimarathon@rotarymarketharborough.org.uk
