APPLE-PRESSING and environmentally-friendly advice featured at a community event in Dunton Bassett on Saturday.
The day-long event was held at Dunton Bassett Village Hall and was hosted by the environment group Dunton Goes Green.
People were invited to bring along their own apples to the event, where they could be pressed into juice using an apple-pressing machine the group bought a share in last year.
Apart from apple pressing, there was information about recycling, Harborough District Council’s new bin scheme and a thermal imaging project carried out in the village last year when every home was photographed to show where insulation could be improved.
A car-sharing scheme was also started on the day for people who live in the village and work near another villager.
Dot Barnard, the main organiser, said: “It was a successful day. It was also a coffee morning and we raised enough money to keep the group going for another year.
“I think the group has been successful since it started. When we created it there were three homes in the village with solar panels and now there are ten.
“We are only a small committee and have meetings every couple of months – but anyone who wants to find out a bit more about what we do is welcome to come along.”
