Flooding strikes again in the district

MORE than 24 hours of torrential rain completely flooded this car park at the rear of Harborough’s Lidl supermarket earlier this week.

Mail reader Professor Heiko Balzter sent us this photograph of the submerged car park, where several vehicles were still parked, on Tuesday.

He said: “This is the new station car park behind Lidl, which was flooded yesterday after two days of torrential rain.”

The Met Office said that the downpour between Monday and Tuesday saw an entire month’s worth of rain fall in just 24 hours.

Elsewhere in the district there was flooding reported at the road under the railway bridge in Little Bowden, which is a hot-spot for flooding.

The town centre, however, remained flood-free.

While Leicestershire avoided the serious floods which struck parts of northern England, some roads in the north of the county were temporarily closed.
