FAMILY and friends of Claire Squires have been overwhelmed by donations to a fun day they are organising in her memory.

Claire, originally of North Kilworth, died while running the London Marathon on April 22, prompting a national outpouring of support which led to the 30-year-old’s online fundraising page for the Samaritans topping £1m.

And people have been just as generous donating items to a raffle and silent auction being held at the Claire Squires Fun Day at Market Harborough Rugby Club on Saturday, August 18.

A 52-inch 3D plasma TV, signed Leicester Tigers shirt, photos signed by One Direction and the cast of The Only Way is Essex TV programme and hundreds of pounds worth of beauty and meal vouchers are among items up for grabs.

Claire’s sister Maxine Holmes said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of both local and national companies sending us prizes for the event. We’ve even had prizes sent from abroad.”

The fun day at the Northampton Road club will raise money for the Laura Centre, which helps people deal with bereavement.

The event, from midday until late, will feature live music by Stereophonics tribute act the Stereosonics, a barbecue, bar, children’s entertainers, cheerleaders, a visit by Peppa Pig, fun games, bouncy castles and the HFM roadshow. A massive balloon release will end the day’s events.

Another of Claire’s sisters, Nicola Birrell, said: “We really want to make it an amazing day in memory of Claire.”

A stall to promote the fun day will be held in St Mary’s Place, Harborough, from 10am this Saturday, when tickets will also be on sale, priced £3. Tickets are also available from Browns Hairdressing, in High Street, Harborough, All Wrapped Up & All Dressed Up, in Church Street, Lutterworth, The Bull’s Head, in Broughton Astley and Moore & York estate agents, in Granby Street, Leicester, by phone on 07968 831499, 07977 835228 or 07725 746141, or on the day.
