Expansion proposal for town’s tennis club

A TENNIS club wants to convert some disused farmland in the Lutterworth area into a new court.

Lutterworth Tennis Club, which is based about two miles outside the town in Hall Lane next to Lutterworth Soccer Centre and Lutterworth Performing Arts Centre, has submitted the plans to Harborough District Council.

The club is asking for permission to turn some disused farmland to the west of its existing facilities into a new court.

In the application, Timothy Palmer, from the club, said: “We propose to add a fifth tennis court to our existing four courts.

“The land we propose to develop is currently disused farm land.”

The club currently has three floodlit courts and one which is not floodlit, and according to the plans the club may add floodlights to the fifth court in future if funds allow.

The land is currently out of use and has a number of trees on it, one of which would have to be removed if the district council allows the plans.

Lutterworth Tennis Club has teams in leagues based in both Leicestershire and Rugby, as well as a junior section.

People can join the club socially or for competitive matches. Phone 01455 202331 for more information.

The full plans can be viewed online by following the relevant links at www.harborough.gov.uk and using reference 12/01006/FUL.

4 Plans which would re-open a Lutterworth take-away which closed its doors in September last year have been submitted to Harborough District Council’s planning team.

Abdalla Khalifa wants to add new shutters to the former Rivali take-away in Central Avenue, as well as alter the opening hours so the take-away can open until 1.30am on Fridays and until midnight during the week.
