Council gets green light for £5.75m planning app

A MULTI-MILLION pound transformation of Harborough District Council’s Adam and Eve Stree headquarters was given the thumbs-up by planners.

The project had been approved by councillors on Monday last week and was just waiting planning permission.

The council’s planning committee granted that permission on Tuesday, allowing work to get underway next year.

The £5.75m project will create retail space on the ground floor, with the library joining the museum on the first floor.

The upper floors will house the council chamber and conference rooms as well as open plan offices for the district council as well as Leicestershire County Council.

Committee members said the new-look building should feature a plaque remembering the building’s past, when it was the Symington corset factory.

They also asked designers to come up with a new look for a canopy at the front of the building.
