Cautious welcome on planning

THE COUNCIL which deals with planning applications in the Harborough district has issued a cautious welcome to George Osborne’s statements on reform.

The Chancellor said this week he wants to drive growth by eliminating red-tape over some planning applications.

Cllr Janette Ackerley, portfolio holder for planning, said: “Whilst we await clarification of the detailed proposals, any money to assist the housing market would be welcomed.

“The housing market needs assistance for first-time buyers to find the deposit to start the chain for the rest of the market.

“We are working with the new planning reforms and our recently adopted Core Strategy to provide new homes whilst preserving the rural nature of our district.”
