A BY-ELECTION is being held in Brixworth next Thursday following the death of a Daventry district councillor.

There has been a vacancy in the Brixworth ward since the death of long-standing councillor Frank Wiig in August.

The by-election will take place at the same time as the Police and Crime Commissioner vote next Thursday.

Conservative candidate Stephen Pointer of Broadlands, Brixworth, is standing.

The other candidate is Steve Whiffen, of Lesson Road, Brixworth, who is standing for the Green Party.

Polls open at 7am and close at 10am.

Mr Wiig, who represented Brixworth on Daventry District Council for 12 years, died on Thursday, August 30, following a long battle with cancer.

He lived in Brixworth for 25 years with his wife, fellow Councillor Liz Wiig, and held various portfolios and responsibilities on the council.
