BREAKING NEWS: The Queen to visit Great Glen
THE QUEEN is to visit Great Glen next month, it has been announced today.
Her Majesty is set to visit the new Leicester Grammar School campus in the village with the Duke of Edinburgh on Thursday, December 4.
The Royal party will be met by the school's chair of governors, Ian Patterson, as well as head teacher Christopher King, Harborough MP Edward Garnier and invited guests.
The Queen will witness a performance by the school choir before visiting the recital room to see the swing band.
She will then visit the Junior Hall to watch pupils participating in a PE class and to visit the 3+ pupils in their classroom.
The Duke of Edinburgh will visit the Drama Studio to see part of the forthcoming school production and then the main school library, where he will meet students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
The Royal party will then re-unite in the main foyer to unveil a plaque marking the official opening of the school and sign the visitor's book.
The new school, which caters for boys and girls aged between three and 18, cost 33million to build and opened in September.
Mr King said: "We are incredibly honoured by this visit and hope that The Queen and Prince Philip will see how proud we are of our new school and its excellent, state-of-the-art facilities.
"This has been the culmination of five years planning and although we have only been here since September all of my staff have worked extremely hard to ensure that we deliver all aspects of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities to the very highest standards.
"The result of this exceptional effort has meant that all of our pupils now feel fully at home in our new surroundings."
During her visit to the area the Queen will also attend the University of Leicester as well as the city's Curve theatre and the Shree Hindu Temple and Community Centre.
Her Majesty is also due to open the University of Leicester's 32million David Wilson Library - named one of the region's best new buildings.
