Bid lodged to build another new estate
DEVELOPERS have put in a bid to build a new estate of up to 165 homes on the edge of Desborough.
The plot proposed by Hallam Land Management is on land to the west of Harborough Road, opposite the entrance to The Grange development, which has sprung up in recent years.
Hallam’s application for outline planning permission covers 6.8 hectares and includes about 50 ‘affordable’ homes, plus a play area.
The move follows outline permission being granted in January by Kettering Borough Council for a further 700 homes in a plan dubbed The Grange Phase Two.
Hallam launched its own plans for its estate at a public exhibition in May.
A range of terraced, detached, and semi-detached homes are proposed, in a variety of sizes.
Cllr Mark Dearing, who represents the Loatland ward where the estate could be built, said: “The more the merrier housing, as long as it is controlled building.
“Housing is not being built at the moment.
“It will increase the size and population of Desborough and, looking at the plans, it looks like quite a nicely designed site, none of the houses are squashed together.
“It’s a development that will help with the regeneration of Desborough and will help the borough as a whole.
“Any large development should necessitate S106 money for the town’s infastructure and the regeneration of the town centre.”
Following comments made during consultation at Hallam’s public exhibition on the scheme, it said it will design the estate so that no access can be made to it from housing to the south of the land, a move which the firm claims will prevent build-up of extra traffic.
The developer said it will provide green space on the estate closer to Harborough Road.
