Award-winning Sophie urges others to nominate

THE WINNER of an awards scheme recognising the area’s most inspiring teenagers is encouraging people to nominate others for the 2013 award.

Sophie Bingham, a Youth Sport Trust Ambassador of Kibworth, was the overall winner of the 2012 Lord Lieutenant’s Award.

Nominations are now open for the 2013 Lord Lieutenant’s Awards and Sophie urged people to get involved.

She said: “With so many deserving nominees I was amazed to win, but it is a great honour.

“There are many young people who deserve to be recognised so please nominate them for the 2013 award.”

The awards seek to identify and reward young people who have made an outstanding contribution to society and are run in partnership with organisations offering services to young people, including Leicestershire County and Leicester City Councils, as well as the business community.

Young people from Leicester and Leicestershire who are aged 13-19 by January 31 this year are eligible for nomination.

There are five categories: Young braveheart of the year, Young volunteer of the year, Young voice of the year, Young scientist of the year and Young artist of the year.

Lady Gretton, Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, said: “One of the joys of being Lord Lieutenant is having the opportunity of meeting many young people and seeing some truly remarkable examples of volunteering in their communities.

“I am delighted with the way my award has helped to raise the profile of their achievements.”

People can also request a form by sending an email to lieutenancyoffice@leics.gov.uk or by phoning 0116 3056053.

The deadline for nominations is January 31.
