Apprentice Alice wins in first week

A FARMER’S daughter from Lutterworth breezed through the first round of BBC prime-time business show Young Apprentice last Thursday evening.
Alice Smith (17) is one of a dozen contestants on the programme, which gives young businessmen and women the opportunity to win £25,000 to kick-start their own career – but only if they can impress the acerbic Lord Alan Sugar in a series of tasks.
Last Thursday the contestants were split into a boys’ and girls’ team and were set the task of selling second-hand clothes at stalls in London.
Alice’s team managed to earn a profit of £453 while the boys only managed £330 – meaning Lord Sugar fired boys’ team member Max Godecki.
Despite last Thursday’s show being the first in the series, Alice brushed off one of Lord Sugar’s comments in the boardroom when he asked which team members had been put in charge of cleaning the clothes.
He asked: “Did you work out which was a washing machine and which was a dryer?”
Alice said: “Eventually we did, yeah.”
Alice is a junior captain at Cosby Golf Club and is already a budding businesswoman – earning an income by selling free-range eggs from the chickens on her farm, as well as waitressing and working in a shop.
She said her aim on the programme is to promote awareness of the medical condition endometriosis, from which she suffers.
The next episode of Young Apprentice will be broadcast tonight (Thursday) from 8pm when the teams must create a new cook book, pitching it to Britain’s biggest book sellers.
