Antiques evening raises money for farmers in need
AN ANTIQUES evening at Kelmarsh Hall has successfully raised funds for a farming charity.
On Monday October 1 Gildings auctioneers hosted a charity auction evening raising over £2,500 for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI). Milly Wastie, East Midlands regional manager for RABI, said: “The money raised will really help to support farmers, farm workers and their families who are currently going through difficult times”. Over the course of the evening guests took part in a raffle and small auction, with seven lots ranging from a three-course lunch for four people in London at Barclays bank HQ to a beef sirloin joint donated by Joesph Morris butchers. The event was supported by local firms NFU Mutual, King West and East Haddon Hill; with refreshments provided by Duncan Murray Wines, Langton Brewery and Emerson and West. John Gilding, of Gildings auctioneers said he was thrilled to have been able to help raise money for such a worthy cause.
He said: “We are already planning a similar event for 2013 once our new premises are completed.” The RABI hope to replicate the success of the auction evening in future events, which include a harvest festival service at Prestwold Church on Sunday October 21 and an art exhibition featuring 18th and 19th century agricultural paintings on November 8 in Coalville.
