American pet detective on the trail of missing moggy

Rufus the cat

Rufus the cat

A CAT owner whose pet has been missing for nearly ten weeks has enlisted the help of a US pet detective to help track him down.

Chris Hirst (38), of Fleckney, had tried everything to find his beloved ginger pet Rufus but then turned to the internet for further help.

A name kept coming up – that of former police officer-turned-pet detective Kat Albrecht of the Missing Pet Partnership.

But she was 4,700 miles away in Seattle, Washington.

Desperate to track down three-year-old Rufus, Chris thought it was worth sending Kat an email and got a positive response.

“Since then, the pet partnership has been in touch regularly, telling me the best techniques for looking, and information about understanding cat behaviour.”

Kat said it was likely Rufus was frightened by his new surroundings and staying in hiding. She urged people in Leicestershire to be alert to possible sightings of him.

“It takes time for a cat to overcome its fear before they expand how far they will travel from their hiding place,” she said.

Rufus is a very large, male, ginger cat, with semi-long fur and large bushy tail – although his appearance might have changed from how he looks in the photo below.

His disappearance has been reported to all the relevant authorities and police. Experts say it is likely he is still near Fleckney. A reward is being offered for information leading to Rufus’s return.
