A DAREDEVIL Desborough man raised £550 for The Squires Effect charity by completing a skydive – just weeks after his first jump was cancelled following the death of a man in a parachute accident.

Carpenter and businessman Marcus Keirle (33) had been due to take on the skydive at Sibson Airfield near Peterborough on September 22.

But as he was waiting for take-off, tragedy struck when a man was killed after his parachute collapsed in a mid-air collision with another skydiver.

The airfield was shut down as emergency services rushed to the scene and Mr Keirle’s jump was posponed for a fortnight.

News of the tragedy might have put some off wanting to jump, but Mr Keirle’s wife Alexa said that was not an option for her husband.

He completed the 13,000ft jump at the same airfield on Sunday, October 7, and raised a total of £554.50 for The Squires Effect.

The charity was set up by the family of Claire Squires after she died while running the London Marathon earlier this year.

The charity aims to inspire and encourage others to achieve their goals and ambitions as well as raise money for deserving causes such as The Laura Centre.

Mr Keirle knew Claire from the age of 15 when his family moved next door to the Squires in North Kilworth.

He now lives in Desborough with Alexa and their children Charlie (4) and Chloe (1), and owns kitchen and joinery business Natural Interiors.

Alexa Keirle said: “We are all over the moon at the amount of money Marcus has raised for The Squires Effect and would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support.”
