Abandoned kitten hides in van’s engine section
THIS cute kitten used up one of its nine lives when it survived a trip from Harborough to Cottesbrooke after climbing under the bonnet of a van.
The moggy, believed to be from a litter of six-week-old kittens found dumped at the side of the road near Tur Langton last week, was discovered after its little excursion by Shaun French, of Welland Valley Drainage.
Shaun had heard a kitten miaowing when he got into his van at the firm’s base at the Innovation Centre in Leicester Road, Harborough, but did not realise he had a stow-away until arriving in Cottesbrooke, about 10 miles away.
The kitten was enticed out of the engine and put safely in a box before being taken back to the centre.
It had a slightly injured eye but was otherwise okay following its adventure last Friday.
Centre assistant manager Liza Menzies said staff fed the kitten chicken from their sandwiches as it was so hungry.
Called Welland after the firm whose van it sought shelter in, the kitten has since been adopted by a staff member.
“It caused a bit of a storm here,” said Liza.
“It’s a lovely little thing. When we saw it we though it must be from the litter that was found near here.”
The other kittens were rescued on Wednesday last week after motorist Gary Dilkes spotted them in a box by the side of the road between Foxton and Tur Langton.
RSPCA inspector Sheona Morley took the kittens to the RSPCA’s Woodside Centre in Braunstone Frith to be checked over for re-homing. Anyone with information about the kittens, or who would like to re-home them, should phone the centre on 0116 2336677.
