A FORMER competitive runner who used to run middle distances has turned her attentions to the pursuit of the London Marathon to raise money for charity.

Ruth Kelly, wife of Scott Hamilton of Leicester Tigers Rugby Club, is organising a fundraiser in Kibworth to help her reach her ambitious £1,500 target for Action For Kids.

Action For Kids is a charity that helps young people with physical and learning disabilities find greater levels of independence and opportunity through provision of mobility aids, employability training and family support.

Ruth said: “I have a daughter of my own who is two years old. We were both very lucky, I ran competitively for nine years when I was growing up and Scott plays for the Tigers.

“We have both been very lucky with our bodies and I’m really passionate about supporting charity.”

There will be a Mexican night at the Coach and Horses pub in Kibworth on Saturday, March 31, with a DJ, raffle and a number of Leicester Tigers players.

People are being encouraged to dress up for the evening, which will include an authentic Mexican buffet cooked by the pub’s recently-appointed new Mexican chef Juan Abel Pineda.

Ruth (24) said her training had been difficult with having a young family but she was looking forward to the day of the marathon when “all the hard work would pay off”.

She has received prizes from businesses in Harborough and Kibworth and said the evening would be a great chance for people to let their hair down and have a good time.

Tickets are available now from the Coach and Horses for £12.50, which includes the buffet.
