Cyclists young and old are being encouraged to get into the saddle and join scores of others in Lutterworth’s Big Bike Ride next month.
People are being invited to have fun, enjoy the exercise and raise money for Epilipsey Action and charities supported by the event organisers from the Rotary Club of Lutterworth.
The Lutterworth Big Bike Ride will start and finish at Misterton Hall on Sunday, August 17, after owner Heather Craven gave her permission for the event to be held there.
The rides start at 9.30am and there are four routes.
They cover 11, 23, 39 and 62 miles.
The entry fee is £10 for an adult and £5 for under-12s, with the fee including a hog roast at the end.
This year’s main sponsor is Neil Green Catering.
A spokesman for the Rotary Club said: “This is the third year the event has been held.
“It attracted 400 riders last year, over 60 of whom completed the 62-mile section, including a unicyclist!”
The routes are selected to follow, as far as possible, quieter country lanes in the beautiful surroundings of rural Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
Part of the route from Naseby to Holcot was used by the Friends Life Women’s Tour this May and many sections follow the National Cycle Network.
Last year triathlon clubs erected their tents and flags on the lawn to create a real event atmosphere and all cycling clubs are welcome.
Members of Lutterworth Rotary Club are looking forward to teams from local businesses, cycling clubs and families entering the event.
Entry forms and more information is available from Lutterworth Cycle Centre, Lutterworth Sound and Vision and online at www.lutterworthrotary.org.
