SCOUTS braved the rain as they took to the streets for the annual St George’s Day parade in Harborough.

A total of 200 Cubs , Scouts and Beavers from all over the district turned out for the event on Sunday in honour of our patron saint.

St George’s Day was on Monday this week.

District Scouting chairman Mark Turner said: “It was a nice day and good to see sections from all over the district coming together to celebrate St George’s Day.

“We didn’t allow the rain to dampen our spirits.”

The annual event has become something of a tradition in Harborough in recent years.

But the weather forced a change in the usual format, with the heavy rain before the service forcing the cancellation of the parade to the church, in favour of a parade from the church after the service had concluded.

The church service was a huge success, with a host of awards handed out including a 20-year service award to Terry Aucott in thanks for all his hard work.

Four new leaders were also invested in the Harborough Beavers.

Mr Turner added: “Overall it was a great day with many achievements, setting us up for next year’s wonderful parade.”
