Vehicles stopped during police action day
A NUMBER of warnings were given to motorists about the condition of their vehicles during a one-day operation in Broughton Astley on Monday.
Police officers teamed up with enforcement officers from Harborough District Council in a bid to ensure drivers were road-legal and had, in the case of commercial vehicles, the required documents to carry waste.
The operation also aimed to target drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts.
PCSO Neil Patel said a total of about 30 vehicles were pulled over during the operation and seven of these were found to have defects, while another 11 were given warnings by the council.
PCSO Patel added: “The organisations involved in the campaign all meet regularly to talk about road safety. We decided to hold a joint campaign to get the message to motorists that they are putting their lives, and the lives of others, at risk either by not wearing a seatbelt or by using a mobile phone.”
