Vandals strike at high school garden

VANDALS who destroyed garden furniture and damaged a sign at Lutterworth High School are being sought by police.

The incident happened some time overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, October 2 and 3.

Some garden tables set up in an outside area were damaged and nearby chairs were thrown onto the roof of the school.

Some lettering was also removed from a school sign attached to the wall and this was thrown onto the roof alongside the chairs.

Sgt Peter Jelbert, Lutterworth neighbourhood policing sergeant, said the incident was unusual for Lutterworth.

He added: “We have not been called to the high school to deal with vandalism of this kind in the past.

“The damage was not huge, but it has taken some time to clean up. A garden table was completely smashed up and other items were thrown onto the roof.”

Sgt Jelbert said the incident had occurred at roughly the same time that two metal containers at the rear of the school had been broken into.

He added: “The two containers were used for storage and someone has managed to get inside them.

“A number of items were taken out and were thrown over the school’s fence into a neighbouring property.

“It does not appear that anything was actually taken.”

Anyone with information about either the vandalism or the container break-ins is asked to phone Lutterworth police on 101.

Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

4 Alternative plans have been submitted for an extension to Lutterworth High School.

Last week, the Mail reported that the school had applied for permission to extend its drama and music department and changing rooms.

The altered plan does not include the changing room aspect.

In the planning documents, agents GSS say: “The proposed scheme incorporates a new extension to the south-west of the existing main hall at the north-west of the school. This extension will be used for drama studio and dining area/flexible space. The dining area is intended to provide an all-day-long flexible space. The existing drama studio is to be changed into an extra classroom.”
