UPDATED: 11.10am Helicopter scrambled to search for stolen car

THE POLICE helicopter was scrambled in the early hours of this morning (Monday) to search for a stolen car.

The chopper was heard in the skies above Harborough at about 3am.

News of the crime first broke on the official Leicestershire police helicopter website and Twitter feed, where it referred to ‘searching for a vehicle’ at 3am in Harborough, Kibworth and Fleckney.

And on the Harborough northern area Twitter feed an officer (PC 3024) refers to a ‘high-performance vehicle stolen overnight in Fleckney’.

The police press office has now released more details to the Mail this morning.

There were actually two separate incidents where the helicopter was called. The first was at 2.40am where there was a report of a car theft in Penclose Road, Fleckney. A Mitsubishi Evo was stolen which has still not been found.

The second incident was at 3am where a resident in Mosswithy, Fleckney, phoned police to say they heard noises outside their home which they though might be their car being broken into it. In this case, no car was stolen, police said.

Anyone who has any information is urged to call the police 101 hotline number.
