Trucker grabbed as shampoo load stolen
A LORRY driver was grabbed and restrained by a group of robbers who made off with thousands of pounds worth of shampoo from the rear of his vehicle.
The Hungarian lorry driver had pulled up for a rest in a layby near a works unit just off the M1 motorway north of junction 20 when the robbery took place, on Monday last week.
Lutterworth police sergeant Pete Jelbert said the driver left his vehicle for a few moments when he was grabbed by two men who pinned him to the side of his lorry.
He added: “A group of three or four other men then forced entry to the rear of the lorry and proceeded to remove the goods from inside and transfer them to another vehicle.”
Sgt Jelbert said the robbery happened in the early hours at about 3.49am.
In total, about £7,000-worth of shampoo was taken from the rear of the lorry.
He added: “The driver did not speak very much English but we were able to interview him through an interpreter to get all the details.”
The gang were all wearing dark coloured clothing and Sgt Jelbert said they would have needed a large vehicle to take the goods away from the scene.
He added: “Any information is useful.”
