Reward doubles to £10,000 in hunt for nightclub boss’s killer
The reward being offered in the hunt for the killer of former Harborough nightclub doorman David “Les” Ross has been doubled to £10,000.
And today (Wednesday, February 27) police revealed they are investigating whether money borrowed by Mr Ross to open the Rubix club in Corby is linked to his murder.
Mr Ross (39), who once worked as a doorman at Harborough’s Club Enigma in Coventry Road, was found dead in the Village Express Hotel in The Jamb, Corby, on December 17. He died as a result of a blow to the head.
Crimestoppers originally offered a reward of £5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible but this has now been increased.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Kinchin, who is leading the murder inquiry, said: “Setting up the Rubix nightclub took a considerable amount of his time and finances. We know that Les had to borrow money to fulfil his ambition, but it is still unclear whether we have accounted for all his borrowing or whether or not this is related to the fatal assault he suffered.”
Mr Ross’ Corby home was broken into on December 14 and a number of items, including a laptop computer, were stolen.
Police have now revealed that at various times in the past he had been threatened and his vehicles had been damaged.
Detectives are investigating whether the fatal assault might be linked to his involvement in the Rubix club, his work as a doorman and taxi driver or to a relationship.
The murder was featured on BBC’s Crimewatch programme on Thursday, February 14, and last week mourners attended Mr Ross’ funeral in Kettering.
Det Chief Insp Kinchin added: “The number of people who attended the funeral highlighted how popular he was, but also highlighted that only a fraction of people who knew him have so far spoken with us.
“This is key, because we know that Mr Ross was a private man who did not share all the details of his life with many people, instead choosing to tell different people about different aspects of his life, his relationships and most importantly his concerns and fears.
“I hope that this reward will encourage people who know who is responsible for his death, or who know of any issues faced by Les, to come forward.”
Following Crimewatch, officers believe they have traced and eliminated the Nissan Qashqai car seen in CCTV footage in The Jamb on the morning of the murder.
However, they still believe it is likely someone saw the attacker entering or leaving the Village Inn Express between 7.30am and 8.15am on the day.
