POLICE stopped dozens of vehicles in the Lutterworth area during an operation aimed at tackling metal thefts in the district.

The one-day operation was carried out in late June and saw officers stopping vehicles on the A426 near Dunton Bassett.

In all, 29 vehicles were stopped and four of those were issued with vehicle defect notices while one other driver received a verbal warning about the condition of his tyres.

The police had teamed up with enforcement officers from Harborough District Council and Environmental health during the operation.

PCSO Neil Patel, who led the initiative, said: “The day was a great success and we had some positive feedback from residents.

“Events such as this shows agencies are not only working together but are working with residents to make the area a safer place to live.”
