Park sex attack accused appears in court

A MAN has appeared in court accused of the attempted kidnap and sexual assault of a woman in Harborough and of attempting to kidnap a teenager in Desborough.

Peter Smith (32), of Rushton Road, Rothwell, is charged with the attempted kidnap and sexual assault of a 23-year-old woman near Little Bowden Primary School in Harborough on November 17 last year.

It is alleged he sexually assaulted her in Little Bowden Recreation Ground while possessing a knife.

Smith, who was not asked in court yesterday (Wednesday) to enter pleas to the charges, is also accused of attempting to kidnap a 17-year-old in Rothwell Road , Desborough on February 18.

Mary Loram, prosecuting at Northampton Crown Court, said the two sets of allegations will be joined and prosecuted together.

Judge Sylvia De Bertodano adjourned the case until a plea and case management hearing in June and further remanded Smith in custody.
