Officer in hospital after van hits parked police car

TWO police officers were injured after their car was hit by a van near Broughton Astley.

One of the officers is still in hospital following the collision, on the B581 Broughton Way near the village on Thursday (November 1).

Leicestershire Police said the officers’ marked car was parked on the side of the road at about 11.54pm when it was in collision with a blue Citroen Berlingo van.

The driver of the van was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and discharged the following day after treatment.

The two police officers in the police car received minor injuries.

One was discharged after treatment and the other remains in the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he is still undergoing treatment, police said on Monday.

Det Cons Kath Orr is investigating the incident. She said: “The van was travelling along Broughton Way towards Broughton Astley and the marked police car was parked off the road close to the junction of Leicester Road.

“We would urge anyone who was travelling along Broughton Way around the time of the collision on Thursday (November 1) to contact us if they witnessed the incident or saw either vehicle beforehand.”
