Man charged with murder over death of woman in car crash

A MAN has been charged with murder over the death of a 47-year-old woman in a car crash.

Police investigating the collision in Gartree Road near Little Stretton on Saturday night in which Sally Marie Lawrence died said yesterday (Thursday) they have charged a 52-year-old man with murder.

He was due to appear at court today (Friday), police said.

The collision happened between 6.20pm and 6.35pm in the evening and involved one vehicle - a red Peugeot 406 Estate, registration number W11 VDY.

The vehicle, which was travelling along Gartree Road in the direction of Leicester Airport, collided with a tree near to the junction of Stoughton Road.

Mrs Lawrence, who was a passenger in the car, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was injured and treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Det Chief Insp Neil Castle, from the East Midlands Serious Operations Unit, said: “We are still appealing for anyone who was in the area to contact us.

“The car travelled from Ring Road via the Oadby racecourse roundabout and then onto Gartree Road - the scene of the collision. I am keen to hear from anyone who saw the car at any point or anyone who saw the occupants getting into the car on Ring Road on Saturday evening.”
