Get anti-crime advice at Lutterworth supermarket

A CRIME prevention day aimed at helping motorists in the Lutterworth area protect their catalytic converters is being hosted on Saturday (October 27).

Beat bobbies are teaming up with security company Angelguard at the Waitrose Supermarket in Lower Leicester Road in Lutterworth between 10am and 3pm.

They will be working, alongside Neighbourhood Watch, to give out crime prevention advice about how to protect catalytic convertors and will also be selling cut-price etching kits.

Angelguard will also be offering advice on other options such as catalytic cages and alarms.

A Lutterworth garage has agreed to fit any items bought on the day for a fee but have agreed to do it free-of-charge if that person has had their catalytic convertor stolen before.

PCSO Martin Doyle said: “We know that the increase in the cost of scrap metal has led to a national increase in the number of catalytic convertors being stolen.

“If you own any sort of vehicle with a high clearance from the ground, enabling easy access underneath, then it would be worth considering some form of protection for your catalytic convertor.

“Having them etched is the cheapest option and deters thieves who know marked property is hard to sell, but people might also want to consider cages or alarms. We hope to speak to lots of people on a busy Saturday.”
