Officers from British Transport Police are now appealing for information about the incident and have released a CCTV image of the suspect.

The incident took place on Friday, August 21.

PC Rachel Morfett, investigating for British Transport Police, said: “A woman boarded the 10.15am St Pancras to Nottingham service in London.

“Following a ticket check on the service, it became apparent that the woman was travelling without a ticket and when she refused to purchase one when challenged by the guard, she was asked to leave the train at Market Harborough station.

“She them attempted to purchase a local ticket at the station office before becoming involved in an altercation with a member of rail staff. It is then alleged that the woman verbally abused and threatened the member of rail staff.

“Attempting to travel without a ticket on any train service is not acceptable and abusing and swearing at rail staff who are simply doing their job also won’t be tolerated. I would ask anyone who may recognise the woman pictured to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040 quoting background log NEA9 of 26 September, 2012.

Information can also be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
