Elderly cyclist injured in hit-and-run

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly cyclist was knocked down by a car in an apparent hit-and-run.

The ambulance service was called out at about 1.20pm yesterday (Wednesday) to the junction between Welland Park Road and Farndon Road.

A spokesman for the police told the Mail it is seeking witnesses and is treating it as a “non-stop collision”.

Welland Park Road, Farndon Road and Coventry Road were all closed off until about 2,30pm.

The cyclist suffered injuries which are “not thought to be life threatening”, according to the police.

Concerned residents have previously called for safety barriers to be placed at the site.

If you have any information, phone police on its 101 hotline.
