Armed police called to flats

ARMED police were called to a block of flats in Harborough today (Friday) in response to a call from someone concerned over the welfare of a resident.

They were called to Northbank, off Coventry Road, at about 1.10pm and remained on scene for about two hours.

A police dog unit was also in attendance.

Police said no-one was injured or arrested in the incident.

A police car and the dog unit was later seen outside Sainsbury’s in town.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “Police attended North Bank, Market Harborough at around 1.10pm today after a call was received concerned for the welfare of a resident.

“The safety of our officers and members of the public is our prime concern. It was deemed appropriate that for this operation a firearms response would be deployed.

“No-one was injured in the incident.

“No-one has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
