Appeal over train station assault

A TEENAGER was indecently assaulted while she waited for a train.

The 18-year-old, from Harborough, was grabbed by her hair and pushed on her knees to the ground by a man who then indecently touched her from behind.

British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at Leicester Train Station about 5.30pm on Sunday.

PC Jamie Davies, investigating officer based at Leicester station said: “The victim, an 18-year-old from Market Harborough, was waiting at the station with her sister when she was approached by a group of three Irish men.

“One of the men began to talk to her, asking her for her phone number, which she refused as she felt uncomfortable.

“After a short while, the three men left the victim and board a nearby train. However one of the men returned, grabbed the victim by the hair and pushed her on her knees to the ground.

“He then fell on top of her and began to indecently touch her from behind, before rail staff quickly stepped in and told the man to leave, which he did.”

The 18-year-old suffered brusing and was left shaken by the incident, police said.

Officers are viewing CCTV around the area, and speaking to a number of witnesses who were at the station at the time.

PC Davies added: “The victim was left understandably shaken and I’d like to praise her for the courage to come forward and report this assault.

“It was an intimidating and frightening ordeal and we will do all we can do identify the man responsible and bring him to justice.”

The man who committed the assault was aged between 16-18, around 5ft 9ins tall with short spiky hair and an Irish accent.

He was wearing a black, waist-length coat.
