A rare chance to quiz police chief

A CHANCE to quiz the county’s top cop will be given to Harborough residents during a seldom-seen police meeting being held in the town.

It is the first time the police have held a public forum in Harborough in recent memory and even more rare is an appearance from the force’s most senior officer.

Chief Constable Simon Cole, who was appointed in 2010, will be on hand to field questions from the public.

The meeting, at 6pm on Wednesday at Harborough District Council’s offices in Adam and Eve Street, has been called to discuss the future of policing in the county.

The next year will see historic changes to policing with the arrival of a new governance structure and directly-elected commissioners.

Barrie Roper, chairman of Leicestershire Police Authority, said: “During the meeting, the authority and police force will outline the options for dealing with the financial challenge while still; providing the best possible service and the likely impact of this on council tax.

“We are keen to gather the views of residents to help us understand pubic expectations and ensure our priorities continue to match their needs.”

The meeting, one of four being held across the county, will be hosted by BBC Radio Leicester presenter Ben Jackson.

Anyone wishing to attend must phone 0116 2298986 or email police.authority@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk stating Count My View in the subject heading.

The meeting runs until 8pm.
