Winners hitting all the right notes

The GBRT has been hosting its Junior X Factor event for seven years and the finals were held at Harborough Congregational Church.

The group says it is the largest and most established music competition for young people in the region and is open to all young instrumentalists and vocalists from school Years 1-13 who live within 20 miles of Harborough.

After listening to one entrant every seven minutes for over eight hours during the heats, the judges (Andrew Cartwright, Kathryn Cartwright and Debbie Smith) awarded 12 acts the opportunity of competing for the title of GBRT Junior X Factor 2016 Overall Winner.

The overall winners were as follows: Overall 1st place: Andrew Martin (piano) who performed Clair De Lune by Debussy; Overall 2nd place: Nye Crane (voice) who performed A Letter from Charlie Bucket; Overall 3rd place: Adam Pugh (voice) who performed Something’s Coming from West Side Story; Most Promising Instrumentalist: Nanami Westerby (piano); Most Promising Vocalist: Lily Almond.

The organisers said: “The standard is usually extremely high but this year has seen all the finalists step up to the mark more than ever before. It was a phenomenal evening showcasing the breadth and depth of the huge amount of young musical talent that Harborough has to offer – we can’t wait until next year.”
