Viaduct engineering project is commended by judges

ENGINEERING work carried out at a motorway viaduct near Lutterworth has received a commendation at a prestigious industry awards ceremony.

Engineers from Skansa Civil Engineering were nominated for an award in the Institute of Civil Engineers annual awards, which took place on April 20.

The firm had carried out work on the Catthorpe Viaduct replacement at junction 19 of the M1.

Despite not winning their category, Skansa’s work was commended by the judges.

Skanska carried out the work, which involved replacing a viaduct at the heart of one of the Midlands’ key strategic highway intersections, providing the essential M6 link over the M1, on behalf of the Highways Agency.

Malcolm Jackson, regional director of ICE East Midlands, said: “The EMMAs are an annual celebration of the region’s best civil engineering projects. This year saw a record number of entries.”
