Stobart group occupies £15m warehouse

A WAREHOUSE at Magna Park has been occupied by a national logistics company.

The Stobart Group, best known for its green liveried lorries, purchased the warehouse from Magna Park owners Gazeley in late 2011 for a fee of about £15 million.

The 275,534 sq ft distribution centre is being used by the Stobart Group to service companies such as Asda, Sainsbury’s and Britvic who are also based at Magna Park.

Stobart says the new warehouse has created 368 new jobs, including drivers and warehouse employees, as well as a number of management roles, which adds to the 7,500 people already employed at Magna Park.

Phil Oakley, development manager at Gazeley, said: “We are delighted to have attracted the Stobart Group to Magna Park and add yet another high profile customer to the site.”

In addition to the new warehouse announcement, Gazeley and Stobart are due to submit a planning application to provide additional car and HGV parking for the Stobart Group at Magna Park.

The proposed facility will employ a further 240 people.

Richard Butcher, deputy chief executive at the Stobart Group, said “Magna Park is one of the most strategic distribution locations in the UK and we are delighted to have established a major presence there.

“We hope to also increase our presence by setting up a transport depot, as our short term leasing arrangement is coming to an end in Daventry,”

A decision on the transport depot is expected to be made in August.
